This class is designed to teach someone with no computer experience the basics of how to use the computer and the Windows Operating system. This class will give students the introductory experience needed for more advanced CIS classes.

Required Materials
1. Floppy disks, 3 - DS/HD
2. Get Started With Windows 98 -- The Illustrated Interactive Series -- ISBN 0-7600-5951-9
Grading Policy:
1. The computer lab assignments make up 70% of the course grade.
2. The weekly 10 question quizzes make up 10% of the course grade.
3. You get to drop the 2 lowest Quiz score.
4. An open note final will be given at the end of the course.
5. Course may be taken for credit/no credit (CR/NC). No final exam is required for the credit/no credit option, however you must complete all of the labs.
6. A letter grade requires completion of all labs and the final exam.
7. All labs are due 1 week after they are assigned.
8. Reading assignments should be completed before the class they are listed on.
Lab:
The lab is open M-F 9am-5pm and M-TH 5pm-10pm. A lab assistant is on duty during open lab hours. you may work on your lab assignments during any of the lab open hours. Each of you will receive a printed list of the hours that I will be available to assist you in the lab. If you have your own IBM PC or compatible and software, labs can be done at home.



Times When I Will Be In The Lab:

From 3/20 to 5/15

I will be in the Kentfield lab on Saturday from 11:40 am to 2:00 pm for the CIS 116 class.

I will be in the Kentfield lab on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm for the CIS 119 class.

I will be in the lab at IVC on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm for the CIS 140 class.

You can come to either lab session to ask me a question, however the class that the session is scheduled for has priority.

Times When I Will Be In My Office:

From 3/20 to 5/15

I will be in my office from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday.
