REQUIRED TEXTBOOK - Sams Teach Yourself HTML, CSS & JavaScript Web Publishing
7th Edition -- By Laura Lemay, Rafe Colburn, Jennifer Kyrnin
ISBN-13: 978-0-672-33623-2

This book should not be expensive, Don't pay over $50. I selected a inexpensive book so you have money to purchase web hosting.
COURSE WORK AND HOMEWORK:
If you have a computer you can do your lab work at home. However, working at home is not an excuse for not getting your assignments done. I am in the lab for several hours each week (See Schedule). If you are working at home and start to fall behind, work in the lab while I am there !! All lab assignments are due the week after they are listed above. Late assignments lose 10% of their value for each week they are late. Reading should be done before the class they are listed for above. All assignments and several other useful items can be found on my website at http://www.nicoleanddebbie.com/classes
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME:
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • Utilize HTML coding to create HTML web pages using a text editor, displaying the created page in a browser and realizing the connections between what is in the text editor and the web browser
  • Utilize HTML commands for text layout and formatting, hyperlinking (both on and off the creators web site), navigation and image placement and sizing to create a static web page
  • Use table commands to create table based layouts in the students web pages, as well as introducing the concept of CSS -- Cascading Style Sheets for the purpose of contrasting the table layout option to the CSS layout option
  • Use in-program documentation through the use of comments

GRADING POLICY:
Your grade in this class is determined almost entirely by your website !!
Class quizzes will not be worth more than 20% of your grade. Just to make sure your work is your own, I will occasionally put one of the students sites on screen during class and ask the creator questions about it. If something is in your web page, I will expect you to know why. You cannot use code from another students website.
You may take this class for either a letter grade or credit/no credit. If you choose to take credit/no credit, you need a grade of "D" or better to get credit.

QUIZ INFO:
The normal process for taking quizzes is like this:
  • the student shows up to class
  • the instructor gives the quiz
  • the student has one chance to take the quiz
  • there is a 15-20 minute time limit
  • there is no use of the textbook / student notes
My way for taking quizzes is like this:
  • give a 2 week time frame to get them done
  • you may retake each quiz up to 3 times for a better grade if the grade you receive the first or second time is not your best
  • you have a 2 hour time limit each time you take the quiz
  • you may use your textbook / notes
I can either use the normal process of taking a quiz, or use my way. If using my way, you will need to remember to take the quizzes within the 2 week time frame.
Quizzes CANNOT be re-activated so please DON'T EVEN ASK !!
