The following document is a transcript of a meeting you had with your supervisor. In this meeting she asked you to prepare an announcement for the staff and email it to them. Open Word, create the announcement, and email your work to me.

Take the announcement you created in the last assignment, add a graphic to it, save it in .rtf (real text format - the standard format that all word processors can read), and send it to my email address as an attachment.

Vacation Budget
Plan a vacation for at least five days. Create a spreadsheet to keep track of how much you plan to spend each day. Be sure to include transportation, food and lodging for your trip. Provide daily totals and a grand total. When you are done, email it to me as an attachment.

Enhancing Readability
Take your vacation budget from assignment 7 and use Borders, Colors, Shading, Alignment and Merged Cells to improve the readability of your spreadsheet. When you are done, email it to me as an attachment.

Assignment 9
Spreadsheet Graphics
Once again take your spreadsheet from assignments 7 and 8. Add a Bar Chart (Histogram) that shows how much you will spend each day on each category you are tracking (lodging, food, fuel, etc.). This should be a single chart that shows all the information. It should have the appropriate axis titles, main title and legend. When you are done, email it to me as an attachment.

Assignment 10
Create a Database Using a Template
Open Microsoft Access. Select the "Contact Management Template". Use the default values to create the database. When it is ready, enter yourself into the database. When you are done, email your database to me as an attachment.

Using Database Wizards
With the database you created in assignment 10, use the wizard feature to create a form and a report for your database. Your name should be in the title of both the form and the report. When you are done, email your database to me as an attachment.

Using A Calculator
Use the calculator on your computer to complete this assignment. Calculate the sales tax on the following group of items. The sales tax for your area is 6 percent.
  • Napkins $2.00
  • Plastic Forks $1.25
  • Lunch Meat $3.45
  • Bread $2.15
  • Soda $5.00
When you are done, take a screen shot of the results on your calculator, paste it into a Microsoft Word file and send it to me as an attachment.

Math (Business Sales)
You are working in a small gift shop. A customer has just purchased five items. Each of the 5 items has a different sale tag on them. The sales tax for the area is 6%. Here are the details on each item:
  • Candles $3.45 Sale Tag 5% Discount
  • Vase $16.00 Sale Tag 10% Discount
  • Art Kit $22.10 Sale Tag $4 Discount
  • Coffee Mug $3.40 Sale Tag 30% Discount
  • Necklace $36.00 Sale Tag 20% Discount
Your cash register is broken so you have to calculate the total using math. Use any application we have covered in this class to show your work. When you are done, email your work to me as an attachment.

Assignment 14
Math (Sales Commission)
In a standard Real Estate transaction, the Real Estate professionals split a fee usually equal to 6% of the sales price of the property. Usually this 6% is split among 4 people:
  • The Broker (owner of the Real Estate business) representing the Seller
  • The Agent (the person who made the sale) representing the Seller
  • The Broker (owner of the Real Estate business) representing the Buyer
  • The Agent (the person who made the sale) representing the Buyer
The split between the two Real Estate offices is almost always 3% each, but the split between Broker and Agent varies. Calculate the commission you would receive if you are the Buyers Agent.
  • Sale Price of home $200,000
  • Real Estate Commission on Transaction 6%
  • Broker Split 50/50
  • Broker agent split for office representing the Seller 30% Broker - 70% Agent
  • Broker agent split for office representing the Buyer 40% Broker - 60% Agent

Combination Final Assignment 15
Reference Notes
There are two ways to retain what you have learned in this class. The first is to start using it immediately. The second is to create some reference notes that you can use in the future when you need a skill we learned in class. Since some of you may not be able to use all of these skills immediately, I would like to help you create reference notes that cover what we have learned in this class. The final assignment is to use Word to create a hyperlink table of contents that links to all 14 of the previous assignments. Here are the steps:
  • Place all your assignments into a single folder (you may need to use a zip disk)
  • Create a new word document. Create 1 entry for each assignment
  • Select an entry and use the Insert-Hyperlink command to create a link to the assignment it represents
